Ohana means Family.

We took a short getaway to Bangkok for a couple of days in October and here’s a summary of our itinerary.

Day 1(28th October)

We arrived at Don Mueang International Airport at 7am after a 2 hour flight from SG. Upon landing, the plan was to book a van for all 8 of us so we can check-in our hotel. Note to self, its cheaper to get 2 taxis rather than a van.

After a 30 minute ride, we checked into iCheck Inn Residences Sathorn. Okay as dubious as the name sounds, the location of the hotel was in an alleyway. Just great. Oh, did I mention I booked the accommodations? Yea, I did. BUT the hotel took us all by surprise when we entered our rooms and it was AWESOME. It’s an apartment style hotel with 2 major huge rooms, a well-furnished kitchen, a washing machine, a dining table, a spacious living room and a legit plasma TV staring at us when we entered the room. 2 air-conditioners in one room too…I’d be damned.  But it was a splendid choice if you’re looking for a value-for money accommodation in Bangkok.

Since it was a Friday, we were told that Chatuchak market doesn’t open in the day on weekdays so we decided to hit the malls instead. In particular, Platinum Fashion Mall. Even though it has only 6/7 storeys, each storey is PACKED with so many stores, you’d die walking the entire mall. Shopped a fair bit for 3 hours and made our way for some food, seafood. We checked out a tom yum seafood store at an alleyway and it was bomb. I mean…just look at that. One bowl could be shared between 4 people!Cray.

After dinner, gramps was tired so we sent them back to the hotel first. Meanwhile, we decided to check out the all-so-famous Rod Fai Market. The real one, not the version 2. When we alighted the taxi, it POURED. Yes, POURED. But no rain gonna stop us cause we bought 4 ponchos and off we go to Rod Fai Market. Once we were there, the vibe was prominently different. It’s like a throwback to the 80’s with vintage shops and cars! I absolutely love the place…other than the horrid rain. But thankfully for the rain, this was quite a sight.

I’ll definitely go back there again when its…not raining. Now, the highlight of the day- the taxi ride home.

I know, it’s not JUST a taxi ride. I think the driver might as well be a racer cause hell…we almost had a heart attack. LITERALLY. DO note, my parents were in the taxi so…think about the shock when he drove at 160km/hr on the expressway. My mum was clinging onto dear life and dad? Well, he was in the front passenger seat trying to keep his cool HAHA. Now let’s think, what if my grandparents were on that taxi too…Jk

But honestly, it was helluva ride, in a good way. Oh btw did I mention, we were supposed to reached our hotel in 30 mins but at his speed, we reach in 10 mins. Wtf really. When we arrived at the hotel, he requested for a tip and hell yeah we are giving him a tip 😛 It was pretty fun, I must say.

Day 2(29th October)

We woke up early to check out Chatuchak Weekend Market cause it’s Saturday! We went to look for breakfast there and of course, do more shopping! Dad suggested buying some coffee and we did, the stall owner was brewing the coffee right in front of us and well, they had a mini-coffee making lesson while they were at it.

We walked in Chatuchak for closed to 6 hours HAHA and finally, we decided to look for some dinner, seafood again XD Dinner was at Crazy Crab, and it was helluva expensive. But mum ordered a 200 bucks lobster and crab and we feasted.Dad suggested we drink some liquor so yes, we did. Even though the dinner was expensive, we figured it was worth it since…it’s not often we have everyone together for a meal anyway. Sad, but true.

After dinner, we went back to the hotel and unpacked before making our way to our next destination for the night- Asiatique The Riverfront Mall. It was raining so we couldn’t visit any night markets and malls seemed like the most probably. Asiatique is commonly famous for its ferris-wheel(which mum refused to take cause waste of money HAHA) and shops along the river.

Day 3

Me and YJ had to fly back on Sunday cause I have classes. So yea, it was a pretty shop trip but I’d like to think that my family is brought a little close after this trip, especially between me and my parents. Maybe it’s not such a bad thing after all?

Until next time/trip HAHA(:
