Manipulation.

It’s about give and take. You come to work late, you make up for it by leaving slightly later.”

Just this morning, we received an announcement that if we are later than 915AM, we can just take the day off and not come to work. Well, it definitely indirectly said in-your-face, “kindly resign if you continue to be late”.

I’m not exactly a punctual person but ever since I started working, I rarely am late. I literally wake up at 715AM for a 9AM job and it’s not because I need a shit ton of time to do make up or what not but the travelling time to work takes me 1.5 hrs. Not even kidding. So imagine my surprise when some of the other colleagues always seem to be late and yet they leave on the dot…? You could justify that these people have children and they have to send them to school etc but…isn’t it common sense to make the necessary arrangements so that you are on time for your job? Wow, now I’m just being biased.

To be very honest, I’m not sure if its F&B or just working here but we can officially declare that this place is definitely NOT a family-friendly office.

I’ve been deployed to help out in the restaurants a couple of times during festive periods and… that’s not NORMAL. It’s true, we signed up for an office job but to make it compulsory for us to aid outlets during festive periods, well, that’s genius on the management’s part (cutting cost 101) but pretty unreasonable ain’t it? I’ve been trying to be a bubble of positivity of sort but somehow everyone’s sentiments about being deployed to assist ops ain’t helping.

I’m cool with being deployed but if I could choose not to, I’d LOVE not to. I have a life you know (not really but you get the point).

I wonder how long the management can play the sympathy card on us though. As though when we help the outlets, we are doing them a huge favor. Perhaps that’s another level of manipulation. Kudos.

Trust is a two-way street.

I’m not saying management is bad but I think it’s also not right for some of the colleagues to take things for granted? You can complain how the management is treating us like children by making us report our movements all the time but c’mon, isn’t punctuality basic? If they didn’t behave like children in the first place, these measures would not have been in place in the first place. So yes, it’s justified to a certain extent.

Every work place is different, I’ve been to some who doesn’t give a fuck if you go for a 2 hr lunch break but since you know this place is very much different and the people who run it prefers to run it in this certain way, then act like it.

I believe the adults call this “adapting”.

So there’s that.
