Planned a spontaneous 4D3n trip to Sabah and boy, was it helluva FuN?!
My highlight for the trip was the part where I literally almost died. The initial plan was to do paragliding and white water rafting but it turns out that the weather was not suitable for paragliding so we did not manage to paraglide in Sabah.
As for the white water rafting, unforgettable is an understatement.
I booked the water rafting session off Klook and it included hotel transfer which was great. But little did we know, after a 2 hour ride from our hotel to Tenom, they made us sit on a DIY “train” to the water rafting venue. The DIY “train” was fking epic. They literally used a motorbike and engineered a makeshift movable platform for us to sit on as the motorbike operates the whole setup. I gotta admit it was pretty ingenious and fun HAHAHA The ride took about 30 minutes and we got to see the whole landscape of the Borneo river and forests right in front of our eyes which was darn awesome. I was in awe half the time tbh because of how insane and surreal it was.
When it was time to do white water rafting, the instructor walked us through the safety measures and off we go for an hours worth of rafting in the river. As we were about to start, it started drizzling. Sirens went off in my head, it was straight out of a video game scene – an epic rain with treacherous rapids in the river. Totally sAfE, not sCared at all.
Just as we were almost about to reach the last part of the river, the instructor pointed to the jungle and told us that sometimes if we are lucky, we get to see Macaws perched on those trees. I was so intensely focused on looking for the Macaws that when the rapids hit our raft, I literally fell backwards into the river. RIP.
Holy sht, fun fact, I can’t swim SO for a split second right there I thought I was gonna drown. I screamed for help for a good one minute to only realize that no one can hear me because the currents were very loud and my teammates were struggling to turn the raft around.
I’d like to proudly say, I floated at least a kilometer away from the raft and in my mind I was like, “So this is how I die?” *leans back and continue floating away*. Luckily enough, the raft managed to reach me and they dragged my ass back onboard. Imagine my relief. ThAt’s fUn.
Funnily enough, you would think I would have chucked away my paddle but I clung onto it the whole time so nope there wasn’t any casualties. Oh, my Gopro survived the ordeal too (I honestly thought I would have lost it in the river).
What a insane trip. Definitely one of the most memorable ones for sure. You don’t get to experience a near death experience every other day.
Don’t really have enough footage for an entire vlog but here are some clips of the DIY “Train” and the Tenom White Water Rafting experience)
Now, off to plan my next trip muahaha
Until the next,
D
