I’m a free thinker.
I used to call myself a part-time Buddhist because of my parents. Specifically, dear old dad. I just don’t understand why we need to follow our parents’ faith simply because they want us to.
Yes, praying to some sort of god allows them to bless and protect you but c’mon give your kids a break. If they do not share the same beliefs, you shouldn’t shove it down their throat. It amuses me how many parents simply feed their children with bullsht, thinking that it is good for them but it might not actually be. Then the question is, do you care what your child feels? I didn’t think so.
My innate hatred for religion probably stemmed from my childhood. Can you imagine being asked to kneel in front of the altar on beer bottle caps for hours as “punishment” when we did something wrong. We were kids by the way. Best part is, when we fidgeted cause it was so painful on our knees, we got caned from the back for it. That’s my childhood.
The constant praying and whatnot when you can’t see what an awful human being you are is just…mind boogling to me. Do you think just because you pray, you can rid of all the sins you have done? How delusional are you? No god can fix that. You don’t need a religion, you just need a conscience. If you truly wanted to change, you don’t need god to tell you to do so.
So when people say I’m disrespectful by throwing away the altar after the death of my father, I don’t really care.
Fact is, I would burn the altar to the ground to be honest but nah I decided to give it away for free. Ah yes, I’m feeling like a samarithan these days, been giving away things for free. Well, it helps to clear the clutter too so.
Religions huh. Wild.
